Ride to Cocha Cashu in Manu Park

by Jason on July 9, 2012

Wow. What a trip to get to Cocha Cashu. 1 day by bus. 2 days by boat. Descending through the cloud forest down 10,000 feet. In the boat, sometimes the water was so shallow that we got stuck. We actually had to get out and push the boat a few times to get it past some soft rapids. We got in up to our knees.

I saw more than a dozen species of bird on our way to Cocha Cashu. We also saw a capybara, which is the largest member of the rodent family. It’s bigger than a dog. Yeah. I wouldn’t want to mess with it. We saw turtles and a few giant caimans. Caimans are like alligators, but a tad smaller. We saw macaws. There was a jaguar too. The boat driver saw it, but the jaguar had already hid itself before I could see it.

I can feel how remote we are. I love how clear the skies are at night and how we can see the stars. Did I say I can feel how remote we are?

Sounds amazing!! Where are the pictures? The travel alone sounds like it would be worth the trip!

Internet connection is slow, so is taking forever to load just one picture, let alone the videos I have of the monkeys, capybara and more. I’m trying to load photos right now!
