Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon

by Jason on May 9, 2011

Friday night my wife, my younger sister, Courtney, my younger brother, Cade, and I all went camping in Sedona. We camped at Cave Springs Campground and roasted bratwursts over the campfire.

Then my wife proceeded to concoct the best s’mores I have ever tasted. I’ve had s’mores before, but not like this. You know the step about roasting the marshmallows. But to melt the chocolate and the marshmallows together takes an extra step that only few have dared to master.

For such an endeavor may risk losing the entire s’more, whether it be to a careless fall or a tragic burn. And even if that doesn’t happen, to hit the sweet spot of just the right melting of chocolate and marshmallow together is never ever guaranteed, even amongst the best s’more makers.

So when I say that I had the best s’mores ever, I mean it. The first bite of every s’more shot liquid chocolatey marshmallow goo into my mouth. My hands were sticky. Everything was sticky. It just doesn’t get any better than that.

The next morning was great too. We hiked Oak Creek Canyon near Sedona and had a fantastic time. It was Courtney’s first hike. It was quite a challenge for her, but I proudly say that she made it all the way to the end and back. She finished the whole thing. There was an accident on the way home that we had to clean off the side of the vehicle, but she made it all the way through. Been there, done that, for her.

And Cade was great too. He had no problem with the hike. He got everything we needed him to, and he was always out in front. He was a great help. I can’t wait for more campouts with my family.
