After 20 hours in either a plane or an airport, we landed in Taipei City, Taiwan. We were running on fumes. We hailed a taxi cab for $1,400 NT. He didn’t speak any English. A few times I thought we were going to die in his cab. The driving is very aggressive here. Chinese people are always in a hurry to get somewhere. If you’re a pedestrian, watch out! Cars will cut you off while you’re walking and squeeze within
less than a foot from you. And there are scooters galore too. Luckily, most of the street signs and stores are written in both Chinese and English. OK, so we got into our hotel room, which was more like a box. Callie’s head stood about 4 inches from the ceiling. We could barely fit anything into our room. The shower was the bathroom. We experienced a fair amount of culture shock in the first few hours. We ended up
crashing the rest of the day. Here are some photos from the first day and some pictures of the Chung Chun Motel where we are at right now for our first month here.
